Questions to talk about
Word for word
Mark: Let me say this as plainly as I can: this verse about being saved sounds really narrow to me. What was even going on when it was said?
Sarah: I'm glad you asked, because I love you and I want you to hear it right. It's Acts 4, Peter speaking to the rulers and elders. Listen.
Scripture: There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!
Mark: Okay, that's bold. Why would he say that to rulers? Was he just picking a fight?
Sarah: They were asking how a crippled man got healed. Peter said it happened in the name of Jesus, whom God raised from the dead.
Mark: Even though those same leaders crucified him? Wow. How did they react?
Sarah: They marveled at Peter and John's boldness, since they were unlearned men. And they recognized that these two had been with Jesus.
Mark: Okay, but honestly, saying only one name still sounds closed off. Like the door's shut on everybody else.
Sarah: I hear that. But I see an open door. It says salvation is given, a gift, not something we earn by being good enough.
Mark: That's the part I struggle with. I don't think I'm good enough for any of it.
Sarah: Me neither. I was lost too, and I still fall short. I'm only saved by grace, and that's exactly why this verse gives me hope for you.
Sarah: You're wanted, not judged. Today, just tell God honestly, I want to know you. I love you, and my door's always open. Follow along for more.
