Scripture
““Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30, World English Bible
Questions to talk about
Word for word
Mark: This one's for anyone who feels too worn out, or too far gone, for God. Sarah, what would you say to them?
Sarah: I'd say it to you, watching right now: you're wanted. I love you, and I want you with me forever. Listen to what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30.
Scripture: “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Mark: Okay, but who's he even talking to there? It sounds like it's meant for people who have everything together.
Sarah: Right before it, Jesus gives a hard warning, then thanks his Father for hiding these things from the wise and showing them to infants. So it's not only for people with it all figured out.
Mark: So he isn't asking people to clean up their lives first? Because honestly, a lot of us don't feel good enough.
Sarah: None of us is, and that includes me. I was lost too, and I still fall short. But Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and we're saved by grace.
Mark: That's a lot to take in. What about people who still have doubts, or who are honestly angry at God?
Sarah: Bring that to him too, just as it is. Even a simple 'God, I want to know you' is a start. I love you, and the door's always open.
