Mark: Nothing's ever really free, you know? Somebody always pays. So when people say we're redeemed, I keep wondering what that actually cost.

Sarah: I wonder that too, friend. The letter, which presents itself as from Peter, went to scattered believers in Asia Minor suffering persecution, and it reminds them of the price. Listen to this.

Scripture: knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ;

Mark: Okay, that's heavy. I wasn't expecting that. So what does it mean for me that it cost so much?

Sarah: To me it means it wasn't silver or gold that redeemed us. Peter points to the precious blood of Christ.

Mark: But part of me wants to pay him back. I'd feel a lot less guilty if I could just do something.

Sarah: Trying to pay it back is a natural urge. Peter says we were redeemed with Christ's blood, not with silver or gold. Later in that chapter, he says God raised Jesus from the dead, so our hope can rest in him.

Mark: What if I just don't feel worth that kind of price? Some days I really don't.

Sarah: I'm so sorry it feels that way, and I won't rush past it. I need grace too. I love you, and I want you with me in heaven forever. Peter says it was the precious blood of Christ, not silver or gold, and that our faith and hope are in God. Talk to God honestly, even just 'God, I want to know you.'

Sarah: Carry this today: you were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. If these honest talks help, follow along, and we'll keep asking the real questions together.
